CBP 2025: Eat the Cake!

Image
CBP 2025: Eat the Cake! t’s that time of year, again, Annual Caking Day (Valentine’s Day).   If for no other reason, V-Day is a great excuse to be booed up with someone, even if it’s only for the night.   Among other things, the soundtrack that you use to set the mood can make or break your evening. That’s where the annual Cake Batter Playlist (CBP) comes into play. The CBP is a music playlist that’s curated, throughout the year and published on the Valentine’s Day of the following year.   Characteristics that are considered, when selecting songs for CBP, include subject matter, tempo, key, and the primary instrument in the accompaniment or instrumental. Considered songs are found via radio, streaming platforms, award shows, and street buzz. Now, let’s get to the 2024 CBP.   This year’s list is comprised of just 12 songs and has a total play time of about 46 minutes.   The tempos range from the low 70s to maybe the 130s BPM.   A lot of these are i...

Still Caking: Cake Batter Playlist 2023

Image
A few years ago, I began creating playlists of songs that were great for setting the mood for "caking," or setting the mood.  The plan was to drop the playlists, annually, just in time for Valentine's Day.  Extenuating circumstances threw me off, last year. So, this year's CBP post includes two years' lists.  Be responsible. Enjoy. Also, feel free to subscribe to the Apple Music or Spotify profiles to see these, or my other playlists, as they evolve. Finalized 2020 Cake Batter Playlist (Photo Credit: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/53/e5/82/53e5821c9647580dc25913117da7b5b5.jpg)      It's that time of year, again.  You've ordered flowers and candy, bought outfits, made reservations, manscaped and gotten Brazilians, and booked rooms.  It's Valentine's Day,  a holiday which many of the recognizers are rarely aware of its origins or purpose.  That doesn't matter, though.  For many of us, this is the opportunity to trick off and cake on a whole 'nother level.  I've even gotten into the spirit, this year.  Don't do it dry, though.  Set the mood with the finalized 2020 Cake Batter Playlist. Compared to the 2019 playlist, the 2020 playlist is a little edgier.  It includes legends like Erykah Badu, and mainstays like Ledisi and Trey Songz, as well as a little Hip Hop and some Afrobeat flavor.      The 2021 playlist is already growing.  The 2020 playlist is, and fu...

2020 Cake Batter Playlist Update

Image
Halfway through the year, several new tracks have been added to the playlist.  These tracks include the following: "Slow Wine Bass Line" - Lloyd (ft. Teddy Riley) I just ask what the hell is a slow "wine"?  I know what a slow wind is. "Believe It" - Partynextdoor & Rihanna I love Partynextdoor.  Dude makes it cool be vulnerable with your women, again. "3AM" - Russ & Ty Dollar $ign I was drunk when I first heard this.  A few drunk text went out that night. "U 2 Love" - Ne-yo & Jeremih Dope record.  I know artists hate comparisons but Ne-yo should be proud to hear that this one respectfully reminds us of Mtume's "Juicy Fruit."  It took a week to figure out whose song it was, though.  It sounded like The-Dream, at first. There are a few from John Legend's new project but I want to handle them in a separate post. Until then, update your playlist and keep caking!

"Wrong Places" - H.E.R.

H.E.R. has done it, again. She's dropped another beautiful song that I'm adding to the 2020 Cake Batter Playlist. It's called "Wrong Places." It's got me in my feelings. lol... Check it out and keep caking.
